Temples and mausoleums on the Mediterranean

The temple of Jupiter Anxus had religious and military purpose high above Terracina. The Via Appia was controlled from this point and must have once been a sight stretching endlessly through the countryside North and South.
Heavy traffic and tunnels on the costal road meant the true Via Appia route through inland Fondi was a better option.
The monumental mausoleum to Cicerone, the great Roman orator, stands alongside the Via Appia in Formia, where he was assassinated. The costal area is less attractive these days.

  1. Had to use mum's gmail account as couldn't open mine so sorry if this confused you with the profile name. It looks absolutely beautiful and I am really enjoying tracking your whereabouts and using street view to see what you are seeing xxx

  2. Good to know you are following. It is not all beautiful and I am fortunate to be staying in good accommodation. Traffic in the small towns is constant and to an extent spoils the atmosphere
