A constant strong breeze as far as Cerignola. Many wind turbines. The fertile flat land generates wheat, vines and olive plantations. The relatively new 19th century Duomo is visible from a distance.
Porto Romano approaching Canosa di Puglia is passable by foot or bicycle although the Via Appia is not otherwise noticeable.
Alongside the 11th century cathedral in Canosa stands the mausoleum of Boamundus - hero of the first crusade and Prince of Antioch ( state set up by the first crusaders).
He died in 1111 and the design of the mausoleum is taken from the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. It's design certainly has some Eastern influence.
