A short time in Barcelona but enough to catch some Gaudi classics. La Pedrera demonstrates his unique architectural style and the Familia Sagrada is a masterpiece. Still incomplete but magnificent. I reckon it's doubled its size since I saw it as a child. It should be one of the World's wonders and one must give credit to the Catalunyans for not giving up with it.
I connect with Hannibal's trail here in Barcelona and stay with it for the majority of the journey ahead. The Euro Velo 8 route from Cadiz to Athens passes through here as well.

Walking on the roof of La Pedrera is a unique experience - I guess you wouldn’t have had time for that?!
ReplyDeleteI was that Anonymous!! Doug
DeleteI didn't have time it's true. I could see people up on tge roof and I recall seeing photos of the roof. They might have been your photos actually. Another time ... And you might not have a Google account to sign jn on as you are an apple man
DeleteGaudi's Familia Sagrada never fails to fascinate. Thanks for posting these, Tom.

The building is extraordinary isn't it. "Increible" in Spanish 😀
DeleteA coincidence, but yesterday an article in L’Independant newspaper mentioned that Hannibal and his elephants camped at Illiberris (Elne - 5 kilometres fro St Cyprien) I guess that will be your route Tom! Garth
ReplyDeleteThat's added some credibility to the journey thanks Garth. Indeed it is on my way to St Cyprien. Hannibal's army and elephants probably devoured all food sources in that vicinity. Your French is good to be reading L'Independant. Nice find thanks
DeleteGreat to follow your travels dad. I want to go to Barcelona again. Only time there was for a hen weekend.
ReplyDeleteIt's a fine capital city and tge beach is good but you have enough of that in Cascais anyway
