How fortunate to meet friends in St Cyprien a stonethrow away from Hannibal's campsite in Edne. The low land here now clearly supporting major agriculture. Probably in the past doing the same and perfect for an army with elephants to feed up on.
The Pyrenees loose altitude as the range approaches the Mediterranean as the image shows. Leaving behind the Pyrenees the coastline in this area of France so flat the land is struggling to stay above sea level. Etangs or inland lakes fill the coastline.
The EuroVelo 8 cycling route is evident again as it passes through St Cyprien and continues on its disjointed pathway through the network of waterways. Always quietly reassuring to see signs of established routes.
Port La Nouvelle seems more like a working town on the sea front rather than a holiday destination. More geography of this nature to come.
