Girona is a fascinating city and the historic centre is protected by Roman walls. I am reminded of Italian towns with buildings lining the waterways. Pompey the Great (Roman General) set about making it an important stopover on the Via Augusta which runs all the way down to Cadiz. The Roman road linked Hispania with Rome in the period BCE.
The Cathedral and other mediaeval buildings stand in elevated positions within the Roman Walls. Many steps demonstrate what I mean. Arab Baths nestle into the complex used by all denominations it seems. The design reflecting Arabic architecture.
En route here, like leaving Barcelona, there are countless well designed Industrial Estates. Industry seems prosperous in Spain and a peculiar exhibit catches my eye leaving one such estate. What is it I wonder?

DeleteStrange how Girona is not marked on the map of your route. Anyway, hope you're enjoying the South of France to the full!
