Santa Maria de Palautordera

To my surprise I note banners advertising festivities associated with Sant Jaume the Patron Saint of Spain who is reverred in many places here in Catalonia. Saint James the apostle is mostly associated with Santiago de Compostela (Santiago = St James) and the Camino de Sant Jaume in Catalonia links up with the main camino routes. I follow a section after I reach Girona tomorrow.

Why did I think it wasn't going to be very warm in this part of Spain. At 30+ in the shade the temperature on the road today was high and energy draining. A friendly Spanish cyclist topped up my water bottles at a cafe. He lived beyond Barcelona and was doing a 120kms lap. I've noticed the Spanish cyclists enjoy a smoke with their coffee. It looks so cool!

He knew where I was heading today and pronounced the name with ease. It's off the beaten track. He was one of literally hundreds of racing style cyclists out training on a Sunday. It's perfect geography for training. Lumpy as we say!

The Plaza here in Santa Marua de Pal... is full of locals queuing up for ice-cream. Enchanting to see these family outings. I exchange some chat with Winia and Josh who live in Barcelona. A German girl from Munich and an English bloke. Both teachers. Winia and Josh.
