Kutahya is a busy city with a showpiece Government Office building. It is one of the oldest cities in Turkey with a history of ceramics as reflected in a water feature on a main crossroads.
A headquarters for Alexander the Great at one time and the ruined castle of Byzantine and Ottoman period construction.
Crusading armies at the end of the 11th century might have touched on this region before turning east on a more direct route to the Holy Land. Richard the Lionheart on the 3rd Crusade one hundred years later never came this way because he arrived by sea in Palestine. He didn't 'rescue' Jerusalem from Saladin but did secure an agreement for Christian pilgrims to visit the city.
As shown in snapshot, Haşhaş (you can guess) is readily available together with an endless supply of çay (yes its tea).

Great pics. Wow... if all else fails... turn to some hash with a cuppa 😁
ReplyDeleteThat didn't cross my mind 🤭
DeleteNice architecture and pretty fountain!
ReplyDeleteIt's the best piece of modern architecture I've seen and in a relatively small town like Kutahya. The Mayor will be delighted we like it 🙂
